Through corporate sponsorships, scholarships will be awarded to the winners.

Students will be encouraged to compose and present an original speech based on the theme “Running the Reds on School Buses – It is a problem! – How can we fix it?” Please note that only one participant from each grade level (9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th) per public school district may be registered to participate at the Regional level. Sinton STEM Early College High School

Fifteen juniors at Sinton High School are attending classes at Del Mar College.  Our Sinton STEM Early College High School students will earn up to 24 credits before graduating from Sinton ISD.  These fifteen students hope to decrease cost of tuition and fees for their families by accelerating time to degree. These courses are stepping stones from high school to college, serving as a path to academic degree programs or college-level workforce education courses. These early graduates will enter the workforce sooner and begin to earn wages, benefiting themselves and the economy.

Summer PBL Institute June 4th-6th

Sinton ISD’s Technology Discovery Center hosted an educational institute for teachers from Sinton ISD and partner academy Freer ISD.  Trainers from Region I Educational Service Center  guided staff through steps involved in Probem-Based Learning or PBL.  PBL is both a curriculum and a process. The curriculum consists of carefully selected and designed problems that demand from the learner acquisition of critical knowledge, problem solving proficiency, self-directed learning strategies, and team participation skills. The process replicates the commonly used systemic approach to resolving problems or meeting challenges that are encountered in life and career. Our teachers are carefully designing projects this summer that will be incorporated in to engaging-rigorous lessons in the fall.

Other benefits of PBL include:

  • Develops critical and creative thinking;
  • Creates effective problem-solvers;
  • Increases motivation;
  • Encourages lateral thinking;
  • Improves communication and networking skills;
  • Is based on real-life situations.

STEM Camp 2012 is here!

The Discovery Center is putting T in STEM this Summer!
All students were given applications to take home today, May 11, 2012.
SUMMER STEM CAMP APPLICATION 2012
If you like technology…You belong to STEM Camp this summer!
Kids in this camp will gain essential technology skills long after summer camps ends!
 We offer the hottest technology in web tools out there for STEM and education.

What and where is
STEM Camp?
What is its purpose?

STEM camp will focus on educational activities in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics; however, primary emphasis in this year’s camp will be using computers and technology while emphasizing engineering, science, and math. Both sessions will be held in the Sinton Technology Discovery Center. Sinton ISD believes students need to enter college with a background in science, technology, engineering, and math. Starting them early can help our children be successful!  All activities will be fun and engaging while allowing them to think-on-their-feet!

SESSION ONE: Elementary Session: June 11-15

Creative Web Tools for Kids is designed for students entering grades 3-5 to use emerging technologies for engagement, thinking, learning, collaborating, creating, and innovating!  Web tools are available for our kids to learn and use that enhance their learning and challenge them at the same time. Our summer camp allows students to experience and explore these tools in our computer labs with certified staff members.  Our underlying goal is to demonstrate how advanced technological applications for enhancing learning can be implemented with only a computer and Internet access.
SESSION TWO: Middle School Session: June 18-22
Creative Web Tools for Kids is designed for students entering grades 6-8 to use emerging technologies for engagement, thinking, learning, collaborating, creating, and innovating!
Filmmaking and Media: Middle School students will be able to use video cameras to gather video footage and create their own movies. Our students will use digital cameras and professional video editing products during this second week session to edit video, create movies, and learn basic photography skills.

Will transportation to home be provided by bus?

No bus transportation will be provided. Parents are responsible for picking their kids up promptly at 12:00.
