Prototype Build in Principles of Engineering Class

Principles of Engineering students have spent the 5th six-weeks learning how to program using ROBOTC using a generic testbed.   Recently, Ms. Rodriguez, POE Instructor, had them choose a robot prototype to build and  program.  Click on the video to see it functioning according to the assigned criteria.

Texas State Aquarium Trip by FPS

Our High School Future Problem Solvers had a recent field trip to the Texas State Aquarium. They learned so much that supported our research on the FPS state bowl topic of Ocean Soup (pollution of the oceans by plastic and other toxins).

2013 STEM INSTITUTE Camper Application

 This program will introduce participants to exciting oceanography research and engineering opportunities, in particular ROV (Remotely Operated Vehicle) operation, through lectures, exercises, hands on activities, design and rapid prototyping, field trips and project competition introduces with prizes totaling $5,000. Students, ages 16—18, will have the opportunity to live on campus and experience the Island University.  Come and experience the Island University firsthand!

SHS Texas Future Problem Solving State Bowl

The following high school students have been invited to compete at the Texas Future Problem Solving State Bowl. They performed outstandingly in the Qualifying problem in January. The Bowl will be held in Austin April 19-21. The State Bowl topic is Ocean Soup (pollution of the oceans by plastics and other sources).

SHS Decathlon Team Place 4th Out of 15 Teams

 

The Academic Decathlon State Meet was held February 22-24, 2013 in San Antonio.
 Our Sinton High School Decathlon Team placed 4th out of 15 teams with a team score of 35,919.3 points!

DeVean Rodriguez placed 5th individual overall and received a $750 scholarship.

Engineering Competition in Kingsville

We brought 4 teams to the Texas A & M Frank H. Dotterweich College of Engineering Competition in Kingsville today.  This was a middle school engineering competition.  At least 8 other middle schools competed today.  3 out of our 4 SMS teams placed!

 Mr. Torres 8th grade team – 1st place in the “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” Engineering Competition. 

Mr. Soliz 7th/8th grade GTT team – 2nd place in the “Bridge Over Troubled Waters” Engineering Competition.

Ms. Stonebreaker 7th grade team – 1st place in the “Marble Drop” Engineering Competition.

STEM High School Students Win VFW Audio-Essay Contest

Hannah Curry (freshman), Aiden Aguirre (freshman), and Cassandra Gibson (senior) will be honored at a luncheon Monday, February 25th from 11:30-1:00 at the Butterchurn Restaurant in Sinton, TX. They are the winners of VFW’s Voice of Democracay Audio-Essay Contest.

Future Problem Solving State Champion!

Congratulations to Jensen Hunt, who found out today that her submission in the Texas Future Problem Solving Scenario competition is the state champion! Her scenario (a futuristic short story based on one of the FPS topics from this year) will now go on to be evaluated at the International level.

As the Texas State Champion, Jensen has earned an invitation to the International Conference in Indiana in June. Her teacher-sponsor, Maggie Gibson, is proud, proud,  proud!

ECHS Students Earn Dean’s List Recognition at Del Mar College

Sinton STEM Early College High School (ECHS) juniors continue their commute to Del Mar College for their second semester of college courses.  Last semester they earned six college credits in classes such as Public Speaking, United States History, General Psychology, Sociology, and Introduction to Ethics.  In addition, they’ve experienced the intellectual challenges of college-level finals.  Sinton ISD and our STEM Academy would like to congratulate our ECHS kids for their efforts in gaining dual credit at Del Mar College while presenting their best efforts back at Sinton High School, as well!
